Miami joins Global Hip Hop Community in the Fundraising Campaign
“Hip Hop 4 Flint”
On Saturday, March 19, 2016, Miami will join 54 cities around the world in a global fundraising initiative that brings together the Hiphop community in solidarity and support for the people of Flint, Michigan. In partnership with the non-profit Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, this initiative will gather local, national, and international Hip Hop artists, journalists, activists, educators and supporters to raise funds to purchase household water filtration systems for Flint, MI residents.
Miami’s Hip Hop and activist community, under the leadership of Hakim Green (organizer of 24Hrs of Peace, Inc.), invites Miami residents out for food, entertainment and workshops for the whole family. Find out more about the water crisis in Flint and your connection to water through water treatment, yoga, martial arts and artmaking workshops from 12 noon to 7 pm.
The evening lineup features MC’s courtesy of Saturday Mic Live (hosted by Catalyst Hip Hop), an exhibition DJ battle hosted by Scratch DJ Academy, Catalyst Miami vs. Catalyst West Palm Bboy battle, live painting by artist Trek6, Hakim Green of Channel Live, Thirstin Howl III, DJ Heron, Sekajipo for the People and more. Food and drinks will be available for sale.
Hip Hop 4 Flint national organizer, YoNasDa Lonewolf, is an emcee, published writer and activist whose work focuses on human rights, indigenous rights and social justice. She has led events such as Hip-Hop 4 Haiti and Justice or Else! 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March.
