VANESSA HIDARY: The Hebrew Mamita

In honor of National Poetry Month and O, Miami Poetry Festival, Next@19th and Temple Israel Present Spoken Word Artist VANESSA HIDARY.

Fill your brain with the linguistic stylings of spoken word diva, Vanessa Hidary aka The Hebrew Mamita and her bold and frank reflections on intercultural Jewish identity, experience and community. Tickets are $25 (general admission) and $20 for students, seniors and artists. Get them at Brown Paper Tickets or call 800-838-3006. Parking is plentiful and free.

“Hidary’s work reflects a combination of cultures, and a confusion of them. Her book’s first words, “L’Chaim and Salud,” sets forth her agenda, which includes embracing multiculturalism while remaining distinctly Jewish, and distinctly herself.” – Jewniverse

WORKSHOP DETAILS:

Sunday, April 14 from 3-5pm at Books & Books Coral Gables ($25)

The Center for Literature & Theatre @MDC join us to present a hands-on experience with Vanessa Hidary. The workshop will begin with Vanessa performing some of her signature poems and short stories dealing with identity, women, race relations and bullying. Following her performance we will open up a discussion to the group, to discuss some of the issues that came up in the work. After this the group will be given writing prompts to write their own spoken word piece, with the opportunity to read the piece in front of the group, and receive feedback and performance tips.
